The environment is full on at Burning Man, and some high winds bring a dust storm over the city. From our position in the 'suburbs' this early afternoon, we can see the white haze approach in the distance. There's no better vantage point than on a rooftop. And there's no better rooftop than a trailer with 10 of your new best friends.

An almost post-apocalyptic feel as a giant art car stops after an all night tour of duty. Sunrise sees the changing of the guard; some burners heading back to camp after a night filled with incredible adventures and another set of fresh faces ready to jump straight into whatever the new day brings.

The horizon is littered with sculpture art and installations that have to be seen to be believed. You never quite know what you're going to come across, each bike ride yielding a new suprise. On this occasion I found a group of life-sized cows waiting for some company.

Radical Self Expression is one of the 10 guiding principles of Burning Man. What this means is different for everyone, but the intent is that each individual should feel free to express who they are and how they feel, in the most vivid way possible. Here, a burner rides a chariot into the sunset, complete with her fuschia hair and 1940's flight googles to save her from the playa dust.

San Francisco is the original home of the Burning Man festival, it stems from a little beach on the far west side of the city. San Francisco has historically been an important port town, where the offbeat, the misfits and the dreamers have been making themselves at home since way back when. So it's only fitting that one of the most iconic art cars at Burning Man is this beauty of a pirate ship. They don't call it the Barbary Coast for nothing!
